I got a new backpack for this trip so I’m curious to see how it goes. It was easy to load and fits pretty well. Every time I pack for a trip I always think I’ve overpacked. I take less and less each time but it still seems like too much.
No computer, no extra camera, and only the shoes on my feet, but it still seems like too much. It’s going to be cold and rainy on the trip so the raincoat and sweater are the extras this time. I know I could buy a lot of technical fabric clothing and shrink down the load considerably, but I have always loved natural fibers.
4:15 in the morning seems pretty early to be headed out the door to the airport, but with no reasonable mass transit, we Californians have to rely on private cars to get to the airport. It’s not a far drive, but it requires extra time to park and head into the terminal. Today I’m using a ride hailing service so it’s much easier than a few years ago.
At this time of the morning there aren’t many drivers available, so I have to wait twenty minutes for the ride to show up. It’s ok, the sky is clear and the weather is nice. A cool and pleasant morning. A few neighbors are out giving their dogs a walk, but the city is really quiet this time of day.
A quiet ride to the airport with some “old Skool jams” (that’s what the display reads) playing in the background and I’m on my way.
Thank God for TSA Pre. There are a bunch of flight leaving at the same time and there are a couple of hundred people in the main security line. I’ve seen TSA workers with clipboards walking through the crowd telling people they won’t make their flight because the line is too long. I learned my lesson long ago, and got the Pre. There are only three people in my line and I breeze right through. It’s worth every penny. I can’t wait for fool proof biometrics so we can speed it up even more.
